Waterford bits shires

A Waterford bit is a multi-jointed horse bit featuring a distinct "ball-and-chain" flexible mouthpiece made of a series of rounded, interlocking metal links. Because the mouthpiece has no rigid bars, it collapses completely and wraps around the horse's tongue and lower jaw when the reins are engaged. This unique mechanism makes it virtually impossible for a horse to lean on the bit, clamp its jaw, or pull against the rider’s hands. 

The Waterford bit is highly effective for strong, heavy horses that set their neck or jaw, but it is considered a severe bit that requires an experienced rider with soft, sympathetic hands.
